University History
His Holiness and Beatitude Ilia II, Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, has always emphasized the close relationship between science and the Church. It was with his blessing that the idea emerged to establish a new higher education institution that would preserve the ecclesiastical traditions and heritage of Georgian science while also meeting modern international standards. Thus, the Saint Andrew the First-Called Georgian University of the Patriarchate of Georgia was founded—a university grounded in national values, dedicated to the preservation of spirituality and identity, and focused on nurturing the science of the future.
The Georgian University was founded in 2008 and accepted its first doctoral students in physics, mathematics, and natural sciences. Since September 2010, the university has opened its doors to bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral students in various fields.
The university currently consists of two schools:
- School of Humanities and Law
- School of Business, Computing and Social Sciences
The Georgian University is a newly established institution that complies with all the standards set by the Ministry of Education. It boasts outstanding infrastructure, modern classrooms, and computer labs equipped with state-of-the-art technology. Special emphasis is placed on achieving a high level of English proficiency, supported by the university’s Language Center.
The university’s full and associate professors are distinguished scholars and educators representing both older and newer generations. Additionally, successful Georgian scholars working abroad and leading international specialists are actively involved in the teaching process.
It is worth noting that high-quality education at the Georgian University is combined with the efficient use of time. Instead of outdated lecture formats, modern academic programs and fully updated lecture courses have been implemented. The university prioritizes the quality of knowledge over the number of students. Special attention is paid to collaboration with top Western universities. For doctoral students, distance learning methods have been introduced.
Today, master’s and doctoral students at the university are engaged in high-level scientific research in collaboration with prominent international research centers. International research projects are planned in law, psychology, economics, and other fields.
Student life is a key focus at the Georgian University. Various educational projects are implemented for students, as well as conferences and competitions. Sports activities and excursions are organized both across Georgia and abroad.
