From Student Ideas to Real Projects - Interview with the President of the Student Self-Government

“Our goal is to create an environment where every student feels that their voice matters.”

Student self-government plays an important role in university life. It is a space where students can protect their interests, share ideas, and actively engage in the social life of the university. The position of the president requires responsibility and leadership, as it creates a bridge between students and the university administration.

In this interview, the President of the Student Self-Government Nikoloz Kokaia shares his experience, speaks about student life challenges, implemented projects, and future plans.

Hello Nikoloz!
Hello.

Nikoloz Kokaia

The presidency of the Student Self-Government is a responsible position. What motivated you to choose this path?
My main motivation was the desire to ensure that students’ voices are truly heard. I have always believed that a university should not be only a place for studying. It should also be a space where young people can develop, realize their ideas, and reach their full potential.

Previously we were less involved in various student events and activities. Therefore one of our main goals was to become more active in these processes, which I believe we achieved successfully.

What was your first day as president like?
My first day was emotional and responsible at the same time. On one hand I felt proud because students trusted me. On the other hand I realized that this trust requires dedication and responsibility.

What is the main challenge students face today?
One of the key challenges is awareness and engagement in university processes and activities. Students often have interesting ideas but they do not always know how or where to express them.

How do you maintain balance between administration and students?
The main way is communication and trust. We try to bring student ideas and problems to the administration while also explaining administrative decisions to students.

Which project do you consider the most important?
Every project is important in its own way, however initiatives that strengthened student life are especially significant. These include educational meetings, student activities, camps, and social initiatives.

What advice would you give future student leaders?
Do not be afraid of responsibility. Leadership means responsibility toward people and ideas. Be active, listen to others, and make thoughtful decisions.
