On April 23, 2026, 150 years passed since the birth of Ivane Javakhishvili. At St. Andrew the First-Called Georgian University of the Patriarchate of Georgia, Ivane Javakhishvili Day has been commemorated every year on April 23 since the university’s foundation. This day was established on the initiative of Academician Roin Metreveli. Ivane Javakhishvili Day has been marked several times with a scientific conference. In connection with the 150th anniversary, on the initiative of Mr. Roin Metreveli, it was decided to publish a collection of scholarly articles dedicated to Ivane Javakhishvili, in which important stages of Ivane Javakhishvili’s life and work would be discussed and the scholarly legacy of the patriarch of Georgian historiography would be evaluated. The collection was prepared at St. Andrew the First-Called Georgian University. The editor-in-chief is Academician Roin Metreveli. The collection presents works by distinguished Georgian scholars. The collection opens with a preface by Roin Metreveli and his work “Caucasology in the Work of Ivane Javakhishvili.” The volume includes works by corresponding member of the Academy and Rector of the Georgian University Irakli Brachuli, Academician Avtandil Arabuli, Academician Avtandil Silagadze, as well as Vakhtang Guruli, Giorgi Alibegashvili, Ivane Amirkhanashvili, Saba Metreveli, Eka Dughashvili, and others.
Familiarity with the collection will give interested readers an understanding of the great contribution Ivane Javakhishvili made not only to Georgian historiography, but to Kartvelology as a whole.
