SANGU together with the University of Bremen plans to implement an architectural tourism research project “Architectural Tourism in Tbilisi/Georgia”. The idea for the project was launched in 2019, but its implementation was hindered by pandemic. For detailed information about the project we talked to Prof. Niko Kvaratskhelia.
The aim of the study is to analyze the potential of 19th and 20th century German architecture for tourists from Germany, based on which marketing strategy and concept will be developed. It is planned to conduct a joint field-work and evaluation of the architectural potential in Tbilisi by 2021/2022 with Georgian partners, which will be continued in the future, taking into account the involvement of students from the two universities.
The project is valid for June 2021 - December 2022. Among other issues, the project plans to create a Master's course of architectural tourism. As it is known, the educational discipline “Architectural Tourism” is not taught in universities. So we are thinking of bringing this subject to the Georgian educational space.
