Prof. Maka Shubladze, visiting lecturer at SANGU School of Humanities and Law, thinks that the fundamental reforms that are taking place in the field of modern law should be followed by the education system. She studied such a constantly relevant issue as food safety and a course of food safety law was created at Georgian University.
Since 2006, the need to implement modern, progressive food safety standards has become clear, both at the legislative and institutional levels. Apart from the fact that my professional activity is related to food safety, in turn, it is one of the most regulated areas because it is directly related to human health. The introduction of modern regulations and the introduction of standards help to strengthen not only the domestic but also the international market. Issues related to food safety are topical, as it is one of the universally recognized human rights - protection of health and life, and implies protection from the risks posed by the consumption of food. The 21st century can be considered the century of fundamental reform of food law, the field is developing institutionally, new regulations are being created, state structures are being formed, the private sector is introducing new systems, and consumer awareness is rising.
With my many years of work in this field, the desire to develop and popularize the field, and given that SANGU is interested in innovations, a food safety law curriculum has been created that has aroused great interest among students. Under the program, students will learn the basic principles on which food safety law is based. Students who study food safety law and wish to engage in practical activities will undergo an internship at the National Food Agency. This sector is one of the most growing and developing sectors and is characterized by a shortage of qualified staff, given that the field is still young, finding qualified staff is a challenge. I think this program will help SANGU alumni to be successfully employed in both the local and international labor market. The Food Safety Law program gives students the knowledge to protect the rights of consumers in this field and, because each of us is a consumer, our university graduates will be educated, observant and demanding consumers and have a significant impact on creating a healthy environment in the food market.
