On March 18 at 12:00 PM, St. Andrew the First-Called Georgian University of the Patriarchate of Georgia, SANGU, will host a public lecture by Andrew Jewell, the International Monetary Fund’s Resident Representative in Georgia, on the topic: “The Role of the IMF and Its Engagement in Georgia.”
Andrew Jewell has served as the IMF Resident Representative in Georgia since August 2023. Prior to this appointment, he held the same position in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Since joining the Fund in 2010, he has worked on debt sustainability issues in low-income countries and has served as a senior economist for Algeria, Belgium, France, Latvia and Ireland.
Before joining the IMF, he spent ten years as an economist at the U.S. Department of the Treasury, including serving as the U.S. Treasury’s negotiator at the Paris Club. He also worked for three years as a financial analyst at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.
He holds a Master’s degree in International Relations and Economics from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies.
During the lecture, the speaker will discuss the role of the International Monetary Fund in the global economy, the specific nature of its institutional operations and the main directions of its engagement in Georgia.
